A New Year's Resolution

Hike 2.jpg

We received so many wonderful gifts from family and friends this Christmas, but one gift in particular was very inspiring.

We were gifted the book "60 Hikes within 60 Miles." The book maps out trails within (you guessed it) a 60 mile radius of DC. It includes trail descriptions, advice, maps, directions, and national park info.

As a couple, one of our collective New Year's Resolutions is to hike more. We both enjoy it and simply don't take enough time to get away into the woods.

We decided that we would dive into our goal of hiking through the book this year as soon as the weather would allow. That happened to be on Martin Luther King Day, which is laughable given the recent snow storms we have gotten in DC. Nonetheless, we took full advantage of the beautiful day and went on our first hike from the book. We decided to do something easy and close, so we went to Roosevelt Island, which I am ashamed to say I have never been too since moving to the DC area in 2007.

I look forward to more adventures in nature this year, and I will keep you posted on the good ones.
