Art and the Greater Good
We don't need politics and picket lines to effect change in our world. We can do so by infusing troubling economic situations with dignity, self-worth, and savvy business ideas.
At a women's conference I attended last week, I was connected with a company that is helping marginalized women make a living in a fun and creative way.
When I encountered this company, I knew I needed to blog about them because what they do truly embodies my heart for this blog and mankind (or, in this case, womenkind).
The company Ethic is seeking to create "a better and more beautiful world" through designing and creating fashionable, quality jewelry that is not only affordable, but also takes into consideration the welfare of women, who, without this type of opportunity, might not be able to survive.
The jewelry artisans at Ethic are HIV positive women in Ethiopia.
Their materials?
The threads come from recycled tires. The beads for the jewelry are actually bullet casings that are melted down and made into beads by local farmers. These casings come from war torn areas in east Africa.

Seeing these photos on the website just amazed me, but what was even more outstanding was the beautiful quality of the jewelry itself. The collection is totally stuff I would wear and gift to others.

This company is telling such a beautiful story. What was once meant for harm and destruction, is now being used to give women a future.
I want to support businesses like these who help women find a positive path in life and encourage productivity and self-confidence. Through having a trade, women can be proud of their abilities and sleep at night knowing that their families are taken care of.
Please take a moment to visit Ethic at www.ethicgoods.com and check out their online store. The good news is that these beautiful pieces are selling like hotcakes! The bad news is that they are currently sold out of several items. However, if you message them through the contact page to inquire, they can add you to their mailing list and notify you when new shipments arrive!
Feel free to Instagram me pics of you modeling your beautiful new jewelry at tarasanders23.
Happy Shopping!!
PS-This is my piece and I L.O.V.E. IT!!!
