Day 3: Retail Therapy...Southwestern Style :)

Michael planned our trip and was kind enough to factor in shopping on the list of things to "see and do" while in Santa Fe.

I must say that retail in these parts is epic. Now of course they have stores like Target and Chico's, but the local shopping is what makes this beautiful, artsy, yet quirky town so cool.

We started at  Kowboyz "Good 'Ol Western Wear" for boots. The key here is that they are new and used. So you can find a consigned pair of boots for around $100 bucks in good condition, already broken in and ready to wear. I probably tried on a dozen or so boots before finding the perfect pair. I learned quickly that my size 11 feet wouldn't work in women's boots, so I just bought mens. That's my true confession for the day. But hey, they look awesome and fit great, and anyone who hasn't read this blog won't know the difference anyway (wink).

Another fun and amusing place to find local art and goods is Jackalope where you can find enough yard ornaments to cover the state of New Mexico. Statues, bird feeders, rare furniture, crafts, blown glass, windmills, and more make up the almost acre of land that the store is located on, which includes several buildings, a petting zoo and a prairie dog enclosure. Seriously, bring the kids to this one!

Tin Nee Ann Trading Company is the type of place my mother would call "part of the furniture." This family owned shop has been around since 1973. The great thing about this place, besides the awesome customer service, is their prices. You can get the same stuff that is sold on The Plaza for about half the cost.

We went to so many places, but I wanted to mention just one more, Double Take. They don't call it "the Double Take experience" for nothing. The place is wall to wall cowboy boots, belts, hats, steer heads, buckles, turquoise, vintage, clothes, pottery, antiques, and more. They have everything, literally, from saddles to dishes. You could spend all day in there. The photo below is just part of their store.
